I have an .mxd that has a wetlands layer in it that comes from arc gis online.  I want to intesect this with some features in a file geodatabase from within Arc Map.  I can make a connection to arc gis online in arc catalog and see the wetlands map service.

But when I try to use the Intersect tool, the wetlands map service isn't listed.

Is it possible to use a map service as the input to the Intersect tool?

The map service needs to be recreated as a feature service in order to be used in the geoprocess.  This allows the service to be query able.

Thanks.  Do you know if a WMS layer can be used as the input to the Intersect tool in 10.2.1?  I know in 9.2, it says here : ArcGIS Desktop Help 9.2 - Querying features from a WMS service layer

However, not all WMS services will support identifying. In addition, no WMS

services will support these querying operations:

  • Using the Find dialog box
  • Selecting features
  • Performing geoprocessing

For the additional functionality you need to turn on the WFS service as well, then you should be able to perform the other functions.
