Hi,

We???re trying to process a grid in ArcGIS 10, and we???re getting the following error about two hours after running the process:

Error 999999 Error executing function.

File read/write error occurred.

File read/write error occurred.

[grid_50m]

Failed to execute (select layer by location)

We???re using a 2 CPU VM with 8GB of RAM running on 64-bit Windows 7 with 50 GB of disk space.  When the process stops, there are 34 GB of disk space remaining, so it doesn???t appear to be a disk space issue.  It doesn???t appear to be a permissions issue either.
The (file based) geodatabase is 14.4 GB and it contains almost 88 million grid cells.

Has anyone come across this before?

Cheers,

Peter

Hey Peter,

We've come accross this many times when processing raster data.

For the most part to get around it what we've done is reduced the size of the grid and then run a model/script to loops through each of the grids and process it individually. This reduces the amount of stress on ArcGIS allowing it to run through our data more smoothly.

Cheers,
Nelson

Peter,

Try this: Delete everything you can in your temp folder: Mine is C:\Users\mboucher\AppData\Local\Temp. Get out of ArcMap first to clear temp files related to your project. You can do this without getting out of ArcMap through the ArcHydro Toolbar under ApUtilities>Additional Utilities>Clean User's Temp Folder.

This solution has address several different raster processing problems I've had.

(Taken from http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/48100-ArcHydro-Problem-Solvers which may have other info related to raster calculation problems).
