Changing query for layer does not change table inserted in layout using ArcMap

I have a layer in the TOC, with a query on a field. Then in layout view, I insert the table to the layout.

When I change the query the table does not update automatically. Then I double click on the table, and now it is changed manually.

How can I change the table in the layout dynamically when I change the query?

I am using ArcMap 10.8.

I have been able to do this with data driven pages in arcmap. I believe in ArcGIS Pro the term "Map Series" is used but is the same principal as the legacy data driven pages. Simply insert dynamic text fields into your layout and set the page unit to the feature you are using the definition query on, create the series and then have the user navigate to the page series that matches what you would have used in be the definition query.
