Use of ovr files

I've been forwarded imagery to load into ArcGIS 10 as an '.ovr' and '.tab' file.  From what I understand (albeit limited), ovr files are pyramid files that are used in combination with imagery files like jpeg and tif.  Is that correct?  Can anyone please direct me as to how to load 'ovr' files into ArcGIS? Do I requrie other file types to accompany the 'ovr' file?

Your understanding is correct.  You need the original imagery (.tif or .jpg) to accompany the .ovr files you received in order to display your images.  The .tif or .jpg files should have the same name as the .ovr files and be stored in the same directory.
