Hello,

I am new to ArcMap 10.2.1 as a beginner status.

I want to import an excel csv file into AcrMAP containing point; northing, easting ,elevation and description data.  What is the best workflow for accomplishing this type of import?

You should be able to go to the File menu and go down to 'add data'. Then just browse to the location you have saved your .csv file.

In addition, let me re-emphasize some simple conventions:

1. Make sure your ID field is unique, separate from your foreign key that you will use to join your data in ArcGIS

2. Keep field names short but descriptive

3. If you are going to use a .csv file, do not use commas in the body of the description or else during the importing process, your data will become skewed.
