Classified symbology unavailable with table join

Has anyone found a way of using the 'Classified' option for symbolizing on a field when there is a table joined to the raster attribute table?

This method works fine for ArcInfo GRIDs, but none  of the other raster formats. Once the tables have been joined, the Fields dropdown is grayed out. Switching the method to 'Unique Values' does correctly list all of the fields in both the raster and the join table. I'm guessing that the code that generates the list of numeric fields is failing when it encounters the qualified field names.

Unfortunately there are other issues with the ArcINFO GRID format or I would just use those.

The problem seems to exist in both 9.3.1 SP3 and 10.0 SP3.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Steve,

I believe you are running into NIM052294 Unable to render a raster based on a joined attribute when using the Classified Renderer. The only documented workaround is to export out the raster, so that the joined values become a permanent part of the raster, and can then be used to symbolize with.

Patrick,

Thank you very much for the reply. That sounds like the same problem I am experiencing, but for some reason the link you gave me doesn't work. It wants me to login to my ESRI Global Account and I believe already am.

Once you gave me the NIM# and the keyword 'renderer' I was able to find that bug and other related bugs on the ArcGIS Resource Center. I need to become more proficient in my search methods.

Is there any plan to get this fixed? This bug has been listed since Dec. 2009 as a medium level, but the workaround offered isn't very practical for us. There are so many bugs related to raster symbology and joins to raster attribute tables that it is very difficult to work around some of these issues.
