Auto number column other than objectID

I have ArcSDE 10 with sql server 2008 sp2.
I want to create a column in couple tables where it will be auto increment ( other than objectid)
When use would add new point or line on the map they should  not have to think about the id , it should be auto incremented. does anyone have solution for this...

Did you ever find an answer to your problem?  I built an MS Access database for our department and I linked the addresses to our County 911 addresses in their ESRI geodatabase.  I built a geolocator with one field (my address ID and 911's Object ID) so that when I geolocated the addresses, I always got a 100% match. 

Everything worked perfect until I got their updated version and their Object IDs changed.  I would like to use an auto number that will not change.  I still can't figure out why the Object IDs do not stay with their original records.
