Add or append after the word in field column question ?

What is the function for adding or append a word after the word in the field column.  I have been trying to figure it out but no luck  even I google it ...

I thought I'd ask anyone here..

I have a field column that has the name of the old historical aerial photos and I'd like to add an extension to it like for example .tif, or .jpeg .etc...

I have had not tried this yet. Had to work to input it there. Will do try  that sooner the better.
