WMS style parameters

Loading a WMS from a Geoserver based server to my ArcGIS-online map, the WMS appears on the map, but specific style parameters, eg ???styles=outline_black??? are being ignored. Instead de online-map always shows de default style defined in the Geoserver-settings. Any suggestions?

I guess this is not specific to a StoryMaps template? I would suggest you move your question to one or maybe multiple of these group: ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS API for JavaScript, OGC and Standards.
