Story Map: Link points on hosted web map to sections in story map

Hello,

I have created a story map using a 'map series' template. (I am prepared to change the template if it will enable me to achieve what I am trying to achieve.) My story map contains a web map that features a few point locations. I want viewers to click on a point and for the story map to jump to the relevant section in the story map that contains information about that point location. I cannot find any information online on how to do this. Please note I do not want to include a link in the pop-up. I know how to do that and that is not what I am trying to achieve. I want it to be a one-step process for the viewer where they click once on the point and it immediately shows the information associated with that point in the story map.

Hi Sarah -- that's possible, but it requires customization of the template code. Here's an article that describes how to do it.

Thank you very much for the prompt reply, Owen. Unfortunately that method looks far too complex for me. It's a shame there isn't a simpler way to add this functionality to a story map.

Update: without needing to customize the template code, this functionality is possible to achieve using some of the templates in the classic story maps (as opposed to the new ArcGIS StoryMaps). I don't understand why the newer templates don't include this functionality!

Hi Sarah,

The classic Story Map "tour" template, should let you achieve this effect.  I am a novice and still very much learning, but here is a sample story map I created that uses the tour template:  

https://arcg.is/199rXy ((I haven't yet found the solution to preventing occasional unwanted "zoom out" effect in my example, but hopefully I will at some point).
