side accordion app: modifying startscreen

Dear all,

I don´t know what�??s the exact technical term but I would like to add a start screen to the side accordion template, like shown in this map for example: http://www.arcgis.com/apps/Compare/Multiviewer/index.html?appid=ee5e2c9efc25477f86efd3a2c7be0ca6, i.e. a popup introducing the app. Any hints?
