No labels on self hosted Story Map Series

I’ve created a self hosted storymap series (tabbed). Labeling works fine in the Map Series Builder and www.arcgis.com/apps/MapSeries/index.html?appid=...&preview. However, all labeling is lost when launching the app from my intranet. Am I missing a tweak in the code on my servers' side? Thanks

Christopher - there is  a new BUG-000101571 that came up as a result of the December 2016 update.  Related, the Basic View (retired) app template no longer shows labels for layers configured.  I suspect the next update will resolve this.
