TIFF georeferenced in ArcMap 10.1 won't open in ArcPad 10

I frequently get sent survey plans in pdf format and in the past I have saved them to tif format, georeferenced them in ArcMap 9.3 and then opened them on my rugged tablet in ArcPad 10. This may not be the best/fastest way, but it has worked for me for a while now.
I recently upgraded to ArcMap 10.1 and now when I try to open the georeferenced tif files in ArcPad 10 I get a very unspecific error and they won't open.
I did notice that the file names seem to have changed, there is now a .ovr file and no .rrd or .aux so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
I have tried using jpeg instead, but they do not even appear as an option to add to the map in ArcPad.
Any ideas or help would be most appreciated.
Thanks Dave

I just managed to open an Arcmap geo-referenced tiff file in Arcpad 10.1 and at the same time activate my GPS to receive data.

This is how I did it and hope it helps you and others with similar problems:

1. Export your image file through Arcpad Data Manager (or use a geotiff image and save it in your
    unit's memory card)

2. Add the image layer in Arcpad and select 'GPS Active' (In my case, the gps cannot be activated
with a 'No datum transform found from D_WGS84 to WGS_1984' error.

3. Now for my fix... With the image layer open select the 'Table of Contents' (The three brown layers
icon) and then click on the open folder and globe icon on the top right corner. It's here that you
have to set the projection of your job. I copied the projection settings from my tracklog and it'll
ask to set this as the default projection. Simply click 'Yes' and click OK.

4.  Now click 'GPS Active' again and you're good to go.
