Is there anyone using ArcPad installed in a handheld computer with a built-in survey-grade GPS receiver like a Topcon GMS-2?  I used a Trimble GeoXT 2003 handheld that has a built-in GPS receiver. Although its L1 carrier wave signals post-processed can lead to decimeter accuracy, I have always used C/A code that is real-time WAAS differentially corrected to get 1 meter horrizontal accuracy (63% confidence level). I am curious if if there is any GIS fellow using ArcPad and L1 carrier wave signals to get centimeter accuracy. Thanks,

I would recommend looking into the Ashtech MobileMapper 100. You can unlock options  such as GLONASS, RTK, L2 GPS and an internal GSM modem to take you to a survey grade GNSS unit for centimeter level accuracy when using NTRIP/Direct IP corrections and using ArcPad 10 as your data collection software. When all options are unlocked it can also be considered a ProMark 200.

If you have specific questions feel free to contact me at bblack@sidwellco.com.

Trimble will allow you to trade in your GeoXT 2003 for a new and better device. (i.e. A GeoXH 2008). ESRI also has a similar offer:

I was recently quoted a $1000 trade in value for a 2003 GeoXM towards a GeoXT or XH from my Trimble dealer. I prefer to deal with the Trimble dealer directly as you getter much better support for the device than from ESRI. I wouldn't be surprised if TopCon would give you a deal for trade in as well. It's certainly worth asking for...

Check with your Trimble or Topcon supplier
