Large axf file crashes ArcPad 10.02 but not 10.01

I have a large database with 1600 records that I need the ability to edit in the field.  Since I upgraded to 10.02, this database won't work on my mobile device.  After it loads in ArcPad, and I try to zoom in, the polygons remain frozen on the display even though the scale bar indicates that I'm zooming in.

What changed with 10.02?

Hi Jane,

Can you provide a sample of the AXF for our testing? Does the behavior  occur on both desktop PC and mobile PC or only one of these platforms?   If you have current ArcPad maintenance, please feel free to submit your  challenge using Esri Support site links for phone, email, webform, or   chat http://support.esri.com/en   to help troubleshoot this issue.

Thank you,
Denise

I'm wondering if this is because some of the layers in your mxd are sourced from the same feature class.  I was having the same problems - large mxd with 20+ layers and the Get data for ArcPad (axf readonly) was crashing ArcMap.  I tried axf editable - crash.  I then tried export to shp - diddn't crash but got errors saying that one of the layers didn't export because it shared the same source data as a previous layer in the map.  I then created a new mxd with only two layers (lyr files) in it with both being sourced from the same feature class (displays different data via Definition Query) and guess what?  CRASH.  I would be interested to know, if you go back and have a look at the source of each of the layes in your mxd if any are the same.  I'm not sure how to get around this.  ANY help would be appreciated.  Incidentally, this is in ArcPad 10.01.  When I installed 10.02 hoping this issue would be sorted, it crashed on opening.  Every time.  I had to roll back to 10.01.

I have had similar problems. I am currently doing a data collection project with 8,000+ points distributed over 5 different feature classes. I also use parcel information, hydrography, easements plus a couple other randoms. Every time I could "Get Data for ArcPad" it would crash ArcMap.

My Solution: Take the project piece wise. When you get to the "Select Output Options" screen of the "Get Data For ArcPad" tool, for -Spatial extent:- change it to -The current display extent-

I've included a screen shot

I hope this helps!!

Hi,
I'm finding I'm having similar issues. I'm testing out arcpad to see if I can put it into production for a utility pole inventory.

I found in the past I could have 2 files (poles, a points layer and noted area polygons layer) from the same geodatabase check out and edit fine. My pole layer has about 4700 points and the noted area layer about 403 polygons

With 10.02 I found I could only have one editable axf layer. IF I had two, the arcpad screen would freeze, navigation bar would be disappear and some other random errors would occur with the map screen. When I checked out only one database file and used a editable shape file for the other, arcpad would run along fine.

This behavior happened on both my PC and the geoXH 6000 I'm trying out.
