Hello

I georeferenced an image in ArcGIS and I wanted to check it out to my trimble unit which runs ArcPad. I have tried exporting it in its origional format (tiff), jpeg 2000 and all the options when i'm checking out data for arcpad but nothing is working.

I'd appreciate any advice so that I can view the georeferenced image in the field

Note: I have arc desktop and use terrasync on the Trimble so this may not be useful...
But when you "georeferenced it" did you write the world file or use geotiff tags? I have had more success with the prior.
Also you must check that the coordinate systems are the same, as raster images cannot be transformed.

See the steps I wrote below.
1. You must know the coordinate system of your map.  It may say in the metadata that came with the data, or if you are using ArcGIS, you can click View and then Data Frame Properties. Click on the tab that says coordinate systems. Once you know the coordinate system of the map/background image, set the coordinate system in all the other softwares to the same one.
2. If you have a raster image (like an aerial photo): Then in ArcGIS, export the map (Click the File tab, and then click Export) (make sure the visible extent of the map is what you need for your project as the program will only export what it seen on the screen) as a Tiff file. Be sure you select Write World File. You probably won??t need color for most projects. The resolution can be set to whatever you like, although you must remember that it will affect the size of the file.
3.     To open the file on the Trimble, you must ensure that the coordinate system on the Trimble is set to the same as the raster image. Then navigate to the Map tab. Then click Options, then Background Files. Find the file and click done. The file should come up and you should be able to zoom in, or collect points on it, or whatever you need to do. If the resolution isn??t right, try saving it again. If the picture doesn??t come up, make sure the option for background files (under options in the Map tab) has a check mark next to it.
