How can I change the scalebar style in the Print widget?

In the application itself, you can change the style from Line to Ruler. Is there a way to make Ruler the style in the printout itself? I found this post which indicates it's possible to change the units. Just for kicks, I tried adding a line like:

'scalebarStyle: "Ruler"'

but obviously this didn't work. But is there a similar fix?

   There is not layout setting for changing the scalebar style. Your only option is to host a custom print service that uses a different scalebar in the layout.
