Hi,
Is it possible to share an extent as a URL link e.g. email or instant message that will launch the Viewer for Flex with the prescribed view?  Essentially, I have the lat / lons of points and want to open the Viewer for Flex by clicking a URL passing the lat / lons.
Thanks for your help,

That email thread you found is a bit old. Starting with version 2.3, the Flex Viewer supports creating deep links into the Flex Viewer, even without you having to do source code changes and compiling on your own.  See doc for URL parameters at:
http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/flex-viewer/concepts/index.html#/Viewer_URL_parameters/01m300000...

There are also samples on http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/flex-viewer/samples/index.html for

  • Zoom by center and scale.

  • Zoom to an extent

Hi Bjorn,
Thanks for your response to my post.  I can get the other example maps to run fine but unable to get my passthrough URL with Lat/Lons to work properly.  I am passing Lat/Lons in degrees with a Bing Hybrid base map. The points are way off going to the same extent and seem to use the MXD last saved extent for every point regardless of lat/lons. Funny thing is if I create an URL with the lat/lons in Google Map it's fine. Additionally, once the user goes to the "extent" they are unable to get any information from the features and navigating the map results in snapping back to the initial extent and double clicking results in a blank map. Any ideas?

Below is an example of the URL I'm building and passing. It won't work for you because it's intranet but hope you can see where I'm failing:

http ://website/flexviewers/pathwayreview/index.html?center=47.61899181N,-122.10946752W&scale=5000

Thank you,
david

If I use "center" my point is way off.
...
http ://website/flexviewers/pathwayreview/index.html?center=47.61899181N,-122.10946752W&scale=5000

The center points need to be in the projection of the map, so if you are using the standard basemaps from ArcGIS or Bing, that means "web mercator". And your example above looks like latitude and longiture

See doc at http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/flex-viewer/concepts/index.html#/Viewer_URL_parameters/01m300000...
and samples at http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/flex-viewer/samples/

In a future release we might support specifying center/extent with lat/longs:
