Still plugging away and having fun learning the flex viewer.  Thanks for all the help so far from the group, especially Robert!  Anyway, the question is about complex symbology.  I have some feature layers being served out.  In the mxd, these layers use complex symbology (though nothing real serious)  Basically using the "expressway symbol" anD another one that I made (green dash on a white background.)  Looks pretty good on the mxd, but on the flex site it is just a simple solid symbol (yellow line and white line respectively).  I thought that the symbolization from the mxd would be carried forward to the flex site. Am I thinking on this correctly?  As always, any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

thanks

James,

There are several things that impact what you see in Flex.

  1. Did you use a MSD when you published?

  2. What is the version and service pack number or your ArcGIS Server?

  3. Are you adding it to the Viewer as a layer with type="feature"?

I'm also new to Flex Viewer.  I've found that if you use "dynamic" layer type, the symbol comes through just like the MXD.  It's also the only way to get labels to appear in the Flex Viewer.

See the documentation: http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapps/flexviewer/help/index.html#/Layer_tag/01m30000000p000000/

2.   The version of ArcServer is 10.02
3.   Yes, the layer is of type="feature"

James,

  1. Get away from publishing MXD and use the Map Service Publishing toolbar in ArcMap and make MSDs.

  2. ArcGIS Server is now at Service Pack 4 (which I highly recommend).

  3. Type Feature does not have the ability to handle Composite symbology like you are talkign about. As Michael mentioned it will work fine as a dynamic type.
