For all of the web maps we created for the three databases we have added the Utility Network to the Web Map and have tracing enabled and the pre-configured traces work. Especially for Communications, we want the traces to show the associations in the trace results in ArcGIS Field Maps and the Web Map in the Experience Builder we have configured (i.e. <Network Level> Cable and Communications Edge Object Strands). We have associations checked turned on in Map Viewer but the only associations that appear are containments, no connectivity or attachment associations.
We are currently operating on Enterprise 11.4 and Utility Network Version 7 for our Electric, Water and Communications utilities' databases.
@kcoonen- If I have understood the question correctly, I think you are wanting to see if these associations can be seen visually on the map.
If you are working in ExB -
If you want the traces to show the association, this can be done by adding the result type of aggregated geometry and selecting the "synthesize geometries" in the trace configuration that you publish/
This is will draw the lines between elements that have connectivity associations or structural attachments.
If you are working in FieldMaps - There is an option to toggle these on/off.

If you are working within web editor or WebMap Viewer - There is a similar option to toggle this, on and off.
Hope this helps 🙂
