I am using survey123 app to create collect data.  I am standing at "select_one [list_name]".  When I set up the list name in choice sheet, I am confusing two concepts of name and label. What do they do for ?

My understanding is that the name is the variable name. That would be what you put in the choices tab as well for list_name if you were creating choices. The label is what the name shows up in the survey as. Each name must be unique, but labels can repeat.

Label is what will show up on survey form.  The Name is the value entered into the data table when the form is completed.  This is a way of displaying plain language responses for your user but enter database friendly values into your tables.

Hi Hai,

Name is the variable name - how the collected info for the question will be stored in the database (behind the scenes).

Label is the survey question and will appear in the survey.

You can reference a "name" as a variable and use it for other questions in your survey.

From the help doc, XLSForm essentials—Survey123 for ArcGIS | ArcGIS

FYI, these Survey123 tutorial videos are good resources: Survey123 - YouTube

Hope this helps,
