Field name too long

Hello,

When trying to publish a survey I get this error message:

It reads:

This survey cannot be published - the field name aiq_surface_preparation_adequate in anomaly_inspection_repeat is too long (32) for Portal; the maximum length is 32 characters.

If the maximum length for a field name is 32 characters, than why doesn't my field name (consisting of 32 characters) pass the validation?

Thank you very much, best regards,

Jürgen

drop a letter and if it works, then this should be reported as a documentation error

(the maximum length must be less than 32 characters)

or an annoying bug.  I do suspect that this hasn't been notices because most users' field naming lengths would be much less than this threshold

Dropping one letter makes it work. Nevertheless, it seems to be a bug, either in the documentation AND in the error message or in the implementation.

Make sure you report it, or it won't get addressed.

in the interim you could change a synonym ie ...'adequate' to 'enough'

Hi Jürgen,

It appears the error statement was mistranslated - the English version of the statement is:

The field name____ in _____ is too long (##) for Portal, must be less 32 characters

Hi James,

I reported this to Esri Germany Hotline.
