Collect IP address?

Is it possible to collect the participant's IP address in order to help identify members of the public who submit data?  If not IP address, is there any other information (device type, operating system, etc.) that might be useful in determining if participants are trying to falsify data?

Thanks,

Hi Allen,

It is not possible to collect IP address. There is support for collecting a device-specific GUID using the property('deviceid') function in a calculation.

Hi James,

Could you provide me a link to where this is in the documentation? I have not been able to find it. Thanks!

Hi Allen,

It looks like the documentation on this is lacking - this partly due to the property() function being deprecated from the XLSForm standard (the web app, for example, does not support it).  You can use a question with the type 'deviceid' (requiring override of Survey123 XLS file validation).

Any updates on collecting IP address now? Thank you!

Has there been any change to this topic.  Is there now a way to collect the IP address of a survey submitter?
