Can't create hosted joined view to child table

Hello, this is a cross-post to this post, since I am not sure if this is a Survey123 issue or a general AGOL issue.

I have a simple table that is used as a child table in a Survey123 Connect survey (the child table is used for repeat functionality in the survey).

I'd like to use the values from a field in the child table to symbolize a polygon feature layer. However, when I try to create a hosted joined view layer (1:M, left join) from the poly layer to the child table, I get a "The view layer could not be created" message. I get the same message when I try other join settings, such as 1:1, inner join, etc.

All layer names are short, using only alphanumeric characters (no spaces or underscores), and the metadata definition for the poly layer is blank, as instructed on this page and in this post.

Does anyone know why I am unable to create the joined view? Is it because the child table is involved in a survey?

Thank you for any insights or suggestions you might have.
