Occasionally Survey123 surveys that have been publicly published, if left unedited or "re-published" for some time will have key elements, reports, text, and/or analysis devolve into some variation of (This is the text) turning into (This%25252525is%2525252525the%252525252525text). After several tickets and instances of speaking with ESRI tech support and other community members, the most recent being https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-survey123-questions/analyze-substituting-2525252525252520-for-s... , we've found publishing the surveys that are experiencing this, with or without making additional changes to the inspection, the broken or corrupted spaces revert to normal spaces, instead of the %25 or %20 variation I've shown in the this is the text example above and what other users have seen in the linked post as well.
Therefore, my idea would either in the backend of Survey123 or as a prompt to the developer, publisher, or group shared users, to re-publish the survey to basically reset the saved survey to prevent the space converting error we've come to encounter across the past few versions of the app, (3.15 thru 3.17). Either as a patch or simple backend prompt, this has come up regularly enough I think it warrants some attention to help end users not have to report errant %20, %25, or other corrupt text cases in their app and save on time going in manually to address the issue. For publishing users, having a pop-up or icon showing the survey has not been edited or published in some six months or so would be handy, especially for large organizations who need to review their content regularly or automatically.
It's otherwise a small occurrence with little impact but has shown up in reports that were generated at the same time as the error was present and users have had to go into PDFs or Word docs and manually edit their intentionally automated step in creating reports from their work.
Thanks,
Hi @GIS_Fox ,
Thank you for sharing here. I tried to reproduce the issue, but it seems like I missed some important steps. Could you please provide more info on this issue so that I can keep investigating?
1. Are they website-published surveys or connect-published surveys?
2. What is the initial version when the survey was published?
3. Where do you see the "%252520"? In all of the web designer page, web app, analyze page, data page, and report?
4. Have you republished these surveys many times?
Thanks,
Ruth
Hi @Ruth_JiatengXu ,
Sure.
1. I've seen this on both website and connect surveys, but haven't seen connect have this happen since version 3.15.
2. initial versions i believe are mostly 3.13 to 3.15
3. I've most often seen these in the designer, analysis, reports, sample reports, and website headers.
4. Republished a total of three times apiece for the active surveys I monitor and no error since first. This is over a span of a year and a half.
Hope this helps.
Hi @GIS_Fox ,
Thanks a lot for the information, I have created an internal issue to track this. If possible please let us know when you find a survey that still has this issue, which will be really helpful for us to locate the real cause.
Thanks,
Ruth
Hi @Ruth_JiatengXu , thank you for the update. I had time this morning to go back and try and find other posts i or other members had made on the issue and found one where it was the %20 spaces occurring. So far there have not been any of my surveys experiencing this directly because i've edited and/or republished them all within the past two months.
Best regards,
