The current Story Map interface allows users to share with a non-customized shortened arcg.is URL.
It would be great if Esri would allow users to create a customized short URL that would be more descriptive (similar to how TinyURL operates).
For example, the below URL links all lead to the same Story Map:
Story Map URL - full pathway
https://odu-gis.maps.arcgis.com/apps/Cascade/index.html?appid=723e660c2c09447fa8a57d3186dc8d2a
Shortened Esri share URL
https://arcg.is/1y0yTC
Shortened TinyURL
https://tinyurl.com/va-tornado-alley
It would be preferable to use a shortened arcg.is URL, such as https://arcg.is/va-tornado-alley
Great idea @GeorgeMcLeod : This is something that I do with bit-ly links, too, and "phrases" such as https://bit.ly/COGSPromo (for our promo StoryMap) is so convenient!
There's an exciting new way to embed stories in your own web pages! This method of embedding works via a <script> tag (as opposed to a simple <iframe>) and provides the ability to customize the URL/link for your story and much more. For more information, see What's new in ArcGIS StoryMaps (February 2025).
This new feature does not directly address this idea, so we will leave it open for future consideration.
