Failed DEM from LiDAR

I created a DEM using a multipoint file that was derived from a .LAS file. The DEM did not use a large portion of the points and does not encompass the entirety of the study area. Several million points were excluded when creating the DEM using IDW. I ran the IDW a second time and, while the second DEM included more of the points, there was still a large amount of points excluded. For reference, I set the cell size to 1cm using the closest 100 points so there should be plenty of information to generate a larger DEM including the excluded points. Has anyone run into this problem before using .LAS data or know of any way to fix this issue? The only thing I can think of is to set the extent to a boundary that covers all the points. I am worried this will that this will still exclude some of the points and the DEM will just be a shadow beyond what has already been created.
