I am trying to highlight the different districts in New York where police stations are located. How can the polygon feature help me with that? And what is the difference between the polygon and line feature?
symbolize the polygon boundaries using a unique classification scheme.
polylines are just the perimeter of the polygons.
What do you want to map? and how do you want to show it?

As of right now, I am still learning the basics. I am still looking for a tutorial or something that introduces me to polygon boundaries.

In this example symbolizing polygons with unique boundaries will allow you to delineate areas with color/symbols etc and you can overlay your polylines if you want to emphasize the boundaries.
