Hi

I am using ArcGIS Pro and I am trying to open or import a map package.

The system get's stuck in the process of importing or opening and nothing happens. I have waited for a long time but no luck.

The file is big (771 MB), but that should not be such a problem, right? The file was shared with me, so I am not sure if there may be problems on the creation side.

Any ideas of what the problem may be and what we should be doing to open the file?

Thanks!

Extract Package GP tool or Import map seems to work, at least with 130Mb file.

If import doesn't work, might try the Extract method.

Thank you so much for the response!

I have tried importing the map and it was/is not working.

I tried the Extract method following your suggestion. The files are successfully extracted, but then I run into the same problem when I try to import or open the extracted maps.

I tried with a .ppkx instead as well, and although all maps, layouts, databases, etc. are recognized, the system gets stuck on "loading". I left ArcGIS Pro running for hours with no luck.

any chance there may be Excel data in the map, and, do you have the drivers/redistributable installed?

Seems I remember project hanging forever and not opening in this situation in the past until I installed all the appropriate files.

Otherwise, not sure what to try next.  Since it extracted, but can't open the map, you may just load all the extracted data directly and see if something breaks.

Try clearing our your map package extraction folder and try again
To find your map package folder, goto Options > Share and Download > Unpacking
Go to those folders and delete the files from the failed attempt and maybe try again
