I have a field with a domain that has lots of entries, I'm pretty sure not all of them are currently used in the data. The attribute table is set to display the actual domain name, ie not the number (does "coded domain value" mean the number or the actual description?), which it does properly. But when I make a legend for it, it uses just the number. Is there an option to make it use the description? Rarely one wants to see just the number, so why is it doing this? IIRC ArcMap always used the description, what's going on with this in Pro? Am I missing something or is this another equivalency issue that was overlooked?

Hmmm...let's continue troubleshooting then. Can you export the FC to a new fGDB, add that layer to a a new Map View in a New Project. Then add the legend element. Do you still see codes vs. descriptions?
If you open up the attribute table, click the 3 lines top right of the table and check on the "show domain and subtype descriptions" Does your legend update properly?
It doesn't affect the legend, just the attribute table. I also tried deleting and remaking the legend as well with the option both on and off.
Okay - that makes sense as I've done more reading and this particular item only applies to the attribute table and not the legend. By chance, do you have any subtypes on the FC in question? I found this Technical Support article that may apply - FAQ: Why Do Domain Coded Values Appear Instead of the Associated Description?
No subtypes either. There may have been some at some point in the distant past, the data design -> subtypes view shows nothing.

That did it, thanks! The descriptions show up now instead of the number codes. The data source was on SDE, and the layer this problem first showed up on was copy/pasted from another aprx. I just tried adding this data into a blank map (from SDE) and the descriptions showed up properly as well. So it sounds like the copy/paste was the culprit for some reason.
Excellent! I'm glad it worked out properly! All the best!
