I feel really confused of whats happening with this funktion. I have DTM raster of all of Sweden that is way to large for my computer to handle (3,68 TB), but I do not need it all. So I used "Split raster" and a polygonlayer of what I do need to downsize it, and that worked fine and the resulting folder with the 1923 areas I need is at 55 GB (which was the expected result). But I want to merge the 1923 pieces (that according to "Split Raster" is in GEOTIFF format) to 1 raster so I can use it to make hillshade. I have before used "Mosaic To New raster" to do this...but this time I discover something new. It ended with me running out of drivespace (500 GB).
Now, how is it possible that 1923 pieces of GEOTIFF files that sums up to 55 GB, when combined is apparently bigger than 500 GB??? Note that I dont know how big actual result would have been... No lossless compression is that good? And according to "Mosaic To New Raster" environmentsettings, output is compressed with LZ77.
Also, is there a better way for me to do this? Remember I need aproximately 1,5 % of a raster with size 3,68 TB.

Sounds like you created pyramids for that giant raster.

Well 55 GB is small compared to 3,86 TB? 🙄 Yes, I did have the pyramidoption...I was under the impression it makes drawing faster? And had no idea it increased size so dramatically...do you have any idea of what factor of increase in size pyramids involves?
