Hi, this is a very general question about symbology in Esri's primary products.
It has appeared to me for some time that ArcGIS Pro has much fewer symbology options that the old ArcGIS desktop (Map) did, and ArcGIS Online / Enterprise has even less than pro.
This has always been an issue as we have migrated old app that use Map-based map services with both pro-published reference services and Enterprise hosted services. Clients want to same symbology in their updated apps, but often if its anything beyond a simple marker, it's difficult to replicate without making a custom symbol from scratch.
In the Character Marking Symbol category in Map, as one example, there are thousands of options. I see a total of 375 2D options in Pro. We have one client that uses the simple question mark symbol from this section, but the only thing close to that in Pro is not nearly as well defined and the client didn't want to use it.
Am I missing something here?
