How to view contour lines obliquely / side on in ArcGIS Pro 1.2

I've encountered an unexpected problem. When viewed from above, contour lines (in 3D) look superb in ArcGIS Pro. See below.

But as you view then obliquely and then horizontally, the lines fade into nothing. This is presumably because they have width but not height. What solution is there to view contour lines from the side so that they display properly?

change the "profile" of the line symbol to "wall" instead of "strip"

Nice! But then the problem is inverted: "wall" is great side on, but no good from above. So I copied the layer and had one "wall" and one "strip" and now it's perfect! Thanks
