How to create file geodatabase by right clicking a particular folder in “project” window ArcGIS Pro,
I couldn’t figure out why all the options available in ArcMap’s Catalog are not included in Project’s ArcGIS Pro? For example, how one can create file geodatabase by right clicking a particular folder in “project” window ArcGIS Pro?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Create a file geodatabase—Manage file geodatabases | ArcGIS Desktop
From an ArcGIS Pro project
Follow these steps to create a file geodatabase in ArcGIS Pro:
- Open an ArcGIS Pro project.
- Right-click Databases in the Catalog pane and click New File Geodatabase.
- Type a name for the file geodatabase and click Save.
A file geodatabase is created in the location you specified.
So basically, you just need to R-click on the 'Databases' option and then browse to the Folder, where you would like to create the File gdb.

Thank you Asrujit for the help,
It appears that the ArcGIS Pro doesn’t detect the subfolder.
In the screenshot below, I wanted to create the gdb inside the Data folder that is contained in “Jifna” Folder. This appears to be impossible. Am I correct? Why this should be a challenge in ArcGIS Pro considering the fact that ArcMap has been existing since long time ago with all these features available.
I can see Sub-folders, so it seems to be a permission related issue in your case. R-click on that folder and undo the read-only checkbox and show the folder. Then check again.
Thanks for the prompt help,
Despite the fact that Jifna folder has the same permissions as Data folder, ArcGIS Pro fails to recognize Data folder. However, granting Data folder more permissions solved the issue.
Hi Jamal,
Well, clearly you need more permissions than just "Read" if you want to create a new file geodatabase..., so Asrujit's comments seem entirely to the point, as your experience also shows now.
Be aware also that Pro is still very much in development. There are still many loose ends for ESRI to finish up before it can be really considered equivalent to ArcMap/ArcCatalog.
Thanks Marco.
Correct. This is related to ArcGIS Pro as ArcMap can do this (creating gdb) without playing with the permissions.
