How much is uploaded while creating a tile map?

Hi. I've got a question about the internals and processing order when using "Share as web layer" in ArcGIS Pro 3 to upload imagery/rasters to AGOL as tile maps. I've used it many times before, but in this particular case the estimated size of the tile cache is very large.

I've downloaded some archival quality scans of Sanborn fire maps for a community, georeferenced them all, and created a mosaic dataset to treat them "as one image." On disk, the 20 or so images take about 2.5GB of storage. After configuring the tile map, the estimated size is 500TB or more. I don't care how much space on Esri's servers this consumes, but I DO care about how much data will be uploaded from my computer. 2.5GB is fine...500TB is not.

So.. the question is, will ArcGIS Pro upload the 2.5GB of imagery, then perform the tile caching on the server? Or will ArcGIS Pro upload the 500TB of tiles because it creates them locally, then uploads?
