Failed to add shape file

A shapefile is not opening in ArcGIS Pro (3.3).

It contains the mandatory files .dbf .shx, and .shp, but Pro can't even add it to the map, giving the generic error: "Failed to add data"

If I create a new shapefile and use the APPEND tool, the new file works fine. The question is why the original one is showing such behavior.

P.S. It can be opened with online tools and other GIS software.

Thanks in advance

It might be a geometry error. Not all shapefiles are created according to spec. Check Geometry generates an error report  whereas Repair Geometry will modify (fix) the data as needed so I suggest working on a copy. Although the .prj file is not mandatory, it can be very useful to have.

Find and fix geometry problems

The Check Geometry tool generates a report of all features with geometry problems in the feature classes. To fix these problems, use the Repair Geometry tool. See the particular tool's documentation for details on what these tools do.

You should have the file .prj with the projection of the shapefile. It may cause the problem.
