Esri Grid raster, 1 band question

I have an Esri GRID (a dem) provided to me with 1 Band (see Catalog listing below).

There are two different names, so someone has renamed the Band, though not sure why. As far as I can tell by viewing it and looking at the Properties, they are exactly the same ...So, I suppose I'm curious why an Esri GRID is structured this way -- when the Band is exactly the same as its Layer?

On a separate note, but related; In Catalog > Properties > Data Type, this is listed as a 'File System Raster'. 
In Contents ? Properties > Data Type, it's just listed as a 'Raster'. ...Any reason for this?
