Please create an MXD setting option that automatically initiates the “Refresh Button” every 10, 20, or 30 minutes (user can choose).

All of our MXD's consume much of the data from an SDE outside of our secure Local Area Network.  Our security staff allows limited time for the connection "pathway" to stay open.  If the MXD is open with no action for a half hour, then the "pathway" to the outside SDE is closed and the user needs to re-open the MXD.

We tell the users to click the Refresh button if they are not planning to use the MXD for over a half hour, but they usually forget as they are deep into other applications.  When they come back to ArcMap all the connections are lost, there work is gone, and they have to reopen the MXD.

Thanks

This would also help with data that is changing frequently like vehicle locations

ArcGIS Desktop is in mature support and will be retired March 1, 2026 so we won’t be considering this idea. We recommend that you migrate to ArcGIS Pro, our fully supported desktop GIS application. See Migrate from ArcMap to ArcGIS Pro for more information. Thank you for taking the time to share your ideas. We truly appreciate your contributions to continuously improving the software to help you do your work and look forward to what ideas you have for ArcGIS Pro.
