I uploaded an Arc map document to my content under a new folder I created. I logged in using iphone ArcGIS and the folder appears but it doesn't show the map. Is there a different format that I need other than .mxd?

The iPhone app only shows items that can be viewed on the iPhone, primarily web maps. As mxd files only work with ArcGIS Desktop, they will only show up when viewing your content from arcgis.com in a web browser.

Thanks,

Pardon me if this is repeating the question, but:

I uploaded a few shapefiles from my computer onto an ArcGIS Online basemap, and they appear on the website in my map.  I saved the map to 'My Content' and was expecting to be able to view the shapefiles in the map on my iPhone.

However, when I opened the ESRI ArcGIS App on my iPhone and displayed the map from My Content, the shapefiles I had uploaded from my computer weren't visible, even though the 'Content' tab says they're all turned on.

If I'm reading other replies on this forum correctly, do I need to have my map hosted on some kind of online server in order to view it on my iPhone?  I thought the ArcGIS Online website was an online server for this kind of thing??

---

I went to a seminar recently on ArcGIS online where the presenters used an example of Cambridge's tree inventory as a layer that they were editing using the ESRI App on an iPad.  How did they do that?  Were they doing something differently than me?

Thank you

@jmilofsky

Can you share your web map publicly so we can look at it?

Thanks,

Mike

Shapefiles in web maps should display in the iPhone app. If you have a specific map for which they're not displaying, perhaps you can share it publicly so we can look at it.

Thanks,

Mike

Collector for ArcGIS gives you a new way to use your iPhone or Android smartphone to map information. With it, you can capture and update both tabular and spatial information using the built-in GPS capabilities of the device or by tapping on the map. Field crews can use Collector to plan routes, get directions to work locations, use data-driven forms to improve data input quality, capture photos and videos of assets, and seamlessly integrate information back into the organization's GIS.
