Unable to Load Specific Layers in ArcGIS Online Map

Hi everyone,

In my ArcGIS Online map, certain layers aren't loading, and I get an error message stating, "An error occurred loading this layer." A few of the layers I am having trouble loading include "Anaerobic Digestion Facilities," "Composting Facilities," "Food Assistance Agencies," "EPA Excess Food Recipients Feature Layer," and "EPA Excess Food Generators Feature Layers." All the layers are giving me an error.

I have checked the following, but the problem persists:

  • The data sources for these layers are accessible and functioning correctly.
  • There seems to be no problem with the web services hosting the layers.
  • I have the necessary permissions to access these layers.
  • The layer settings appear correctly.
  • I have tried accessing the map using different browsers and networks.
  • As a test, I reduced the number of layers in the map, but that did not resolve the issue.

Here is a screenshot of the issue:

Could someone please help me troubleshoot this issue or suggest any other steps I might take to resolve it? Any guidance or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi @CenterforEmergencyManagementan

Hi there! I apologize for the issue you're experiencing.  I was able to successfully load the layers in Map Viewer.

However, I noticed that several of the layers you mentioned are group layers containing a large number of individual layers.

As a precaution, we generally discourage the use of so many layers in a single web map, as loading multiple layers simultaneously can impact the map's performance.

We are actively working on solutions to improve map performance, but in the meantime, I recommend adding one of these layers to one map at a time to see if they load properly in that case.

I hope this helps!

Dear Emily,

Thank you so much. Will try that way then.
