i find it strange that there's no email function that sends out an actual invitation to a user who gets invited to join a group. Especially for newbies to this site, how will they know they've been invited to something unless they specifically go looking for the invitation on thier arcgis.com account? it doesn't seem like people will do that automatically, especially if they're not a frequent user of the site. anyone agree? know of plans to add this feature or reasons why it won't be added?

I agree. It's something on our list of things to do, just not at the top of the list.

Thanks,

I take it this hasn't been resolved? I invited a non-GIS person to a private group. He registered as a user, now what do I need to tell him to start using the group?

Currently, in order to invite someone to join a group, they must already have an account with ArcGIS Online. Once they receive the invitation, they need to accept the invitation. They can do this by going to the Groups tab and looking at their invitations. Once they accept, they'll see they are a member of your group and will now have access to all items shared with the group.

Thanks,

Mike
