I am a bit new to ArcGIS online. I was trying to add shapefiles to ArcGIS online using "Add Layer from File" and the size of shapefiles was approx. 2 mb.                                               issue_upload

I am facing error i.e. as per the screenshot above i.e. the data set is too large. How should I add my data which is only 2 mb on ArcGIS online so that I can view it.

Please help me out regarding this issue. I would be thankful to you for this.

Thanks

The shapefile is compressed into a zip file?

http://doc.arcgis.com/en/arcgis-online/create-maps/add-layers.htm#FILE

Can you publish hosted feature layers?

http://doc.arcgis.com/en/arcgis-online/share-maps/publish-features.htm specifically ( http://doc.arcgis.com/en/arcgis-online/share-maps/publish-features.htm#ESRI_SECTION1_49CE0570C3BA4AD...)

of if it is for testing purposes, try a subsample of your file.

Do you only have a free subscription to ArcGIS Online?

Do you have access to any ArcGIS Desktop software? How many features are contained in your shapefile (there is a limit of 1000 features)? Is it possible to attach the shapefile as ZIP to this thread to examine it?

Echoing Dan & Xander's questions:

  1. Can you break up the shapefile into smaller component parts? I.e. make five 0.4MB zipped shapefiles?
  2. If you have Desktop, can you attempt to publish this as a hosted feature service? That may be a workaround.
  3. Is this data confidential? If not, you can upload it to Geonet and some of the community could test.

Above is the link for the sip file for my shapefiles. Please have a look at it regarding how to open it in ArcGIS online. I shall be thankful to you for this.

There are two shapefiles with more than 1000 features that need to be split into separate shapefiles. It's best to manage each shapefile in its own ZIP file. Try with the ZIP files attached.

Check the previous responses

As I noted 2 days ago, and other have previously noted...

  • you have to have less than 1000 features per shapefile and
  • the shape files have to be zipped

Try the suggestions already offered or indicate why they haven't or aren't working.

Hi Dan Patterson‌, maybe the OP does not have access to Desktop or other software that allows to split the shapefiles. One thing is for sure; there are two shapefiles with more than 1000 feature, and you cannot add those to AGOL.
