I am trying to familiarize myself with the Perform Analysis with the new Map Viewer and I am having difficulty with the Create Watershed and Trace Downstream tools. In class students use the Draw feature in the Classic Map Viewer version of these tools to drop points and run the analysis. I cannot figure out how to do the same with the new Map Viewer. As far as I can tell, you can only input layers to do this. I tried to add a Sketch layer with points, but it will not accept these kind of layers. I am hoping the ability to run these tools by dropping points is not gone, as it was a useful option in my classes.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Josh
Hi Josh,
We're so excited to hear that you're trying out the new Analysis tools in Map Viewer.
Unfortunately, the first release of these tools does not support the use of Sketch Layers as an input to analysis. However, it is on the roadmap, and you should be able to draw a point to use within the tools this coming summer (2023).
For now though, you'll need to use a feature layer as the input feature.
You can do this by going to My Content, and adding a New Item. You can select the Feature Layer option to create a point with minimal attributes. Make sure editing is enabled.
Once that new layer is added to the map, you can use Edit to draw points on the map.
That layer can then be used for analysis.
We apologize for the inconvenience, and look forward to bringing you a better integrated solution soon.
