How do *you* use the Dark Gray Canvas basemap?

The Dark Gray Canvas basemap is released (see the blog announcing it, with URLs to the basemap itself and its component base layer and reference layer).

So, how do you use it well? Can you simply swap it in, and everything magically works with your map's main subject matter?

Maybe. But just in case your thematic map isn't quite looking like you'd hoped on Dark Gray Canvas, read this blog and this blog from the map's designer, Andy Skinner. He explains how colors work well on top of a dark map, with lots of examples.

Share your maps that use Dark Gray Canvas back to this thread, so others can benefit from your work!

Looks like 3.12 added it, that makes it a lot easier:) What's new in Version 3.12 | Guide | ArcGIS API for JavaScript

Jim,

I am actually using the Dark Gray basemap in my public safety desktop apps for a night mode view.  This works especially well for the mobile version of the map.  The topo map can be blinding to our fire and police officers when the map is being used at night as it is so bright.  It would be excellent if the larger scales were added so they could zoom in farther when using the Dark Gray basemap.  I have included a screenshot of the app.

How do I add the Dark Grey World Basemap?  Our organisation tends to use the NZ basemaps however we do have some of the world ones available, even the light grey one, but for some reason I can't see the dark grey one.

Good way to find them is the ArcGIS Living Atlas app. Here's a link to a search for the Dark Gray basemap (a webmap), its base layer and its reference layer. Plus some other things.
