Hi there,
I suggest you go straight to the horses mouth...
http://www.unitar.org/unosat/sudan
http://www.un.org/Depts/Cartographic/english/htmain.htm
You will find the latest data for South Sudan and the current status of any changes.
also have a look at the other relief web sites
http://reliefweb.int/country/ssd
http://southsudan.opendataforafrica.org/

assuming you don't get your ESRI base data to work...

All the best,
William

Hi Joe,

I don't know how to thank you for this.

You were a great help. This was exactly what I needed. Is there perhaps a donate section.
I feel I need to contribute something.

Again. Thank You.

Dear Joe,

I also need a shapefile for Africa. Is it allowed to use this shapefile as basemap for a Figure in an Open Access publication? How should I reference it?

Sven:

Your question spurred me to look at the terms of use for the shapefile that I shared.  The shapefile that I shared was part of the dataset delivered with the purchase of Esri's ArcGIS Desktop software.  I was under the assumption that it could be used by anyone without restrictions.  I was wrong.  I cannot redistribute these data, legally.  I'm sorry, but I need to take that data set down.

If you have a licensed copy of ArcGIS Desktop, the Africa countries data can be found in the "Data and Maps" that are available for download with the software.

Hey Joe, thank you very much.

Does this mean as long as I have a license for ArcGIS I can use it?
