I am an instructional designer for a middle school-aged youth GIS program.  One of the tasks our youth do early in their GIS experience is collect waypoints and tracks using a handheld GPS unit then importing them to display on an aerial image of their location.  We would love to be able to do this in schools that don't (yet) have ArcView, but none of the import methods I've used seem to work in ArcGIS Online.  Any suggestions?  Thanks!

ArcGIS.com map viewer can't do this. However, have you tried using our free desktop viewer, ArcGIS Explorer Desktop? You would need to download the program and run it on your computer.

It has the ability to import GPS Exchange Format Files (.GPX) files.

Thanks,

Mike

Download the GPS addon and you can directly import and export your tracks and waypoints. Works with USB and old style serial port GPS units.
