Going to ArcGIS Online from ArcGIS Explorer Online is awkward

so far as I can tell, there is no way within the AEOL Silverlight application to bring up ArcGIS Online.

That is, no way to go from explorer.arcgis.com to www.arcgis.com from within the app.

I find I want to do this all the time.

Why?

Because AEOL is a great tool for creating a web map. Unfortunately, when publication time comes, I prefer the javascript web map viewer because I do not want to force install of Silverlight. Sad but true.

So what I end up doing is opening two browser tabs--one for AGOL and one for AEOL.

Going from www.arcgis.com to explorer.com is not as difficult, because the Open dialogs for web maps offer both options.

It would be cool if AEOL could somehow acknowledge the existence of AGOL. Maybe I should post this in the AEOL forum..

You might try cross posting in Explorer Online forums. There doesn't seem to be an easy way to go from Explorer online to ArcGIS.com

What exactly do you mean by "when publish time comes"?

sorry, old habits. 'compile time' (anyone remember compilers?), 'run time' -- this was the semantic context for 'publish time'. I allude to the common work flow of web map production of loading data, tweaking the map, then publishing (via iframe embed or application). Various issues appear at each stage of this workflow. since webmap can be built and saved in one environment, then consumed or published in another, my comment was about the preferred publication environment, which for many will be Javascript because Silverlight will be less desirable.
