Hello,

I want ot use a gif I have stored in a Google Drive as a symbol for a point layer.

I used the following solutions to get the url to add in the Classic Map Viewer.

https://community.esri.com/t5/classic-esri-story-maps-questions/images-stored-on-google-drive/td-p/1...

https://www.labnol.org/embed/google/drive/

In Classic Map Viewer, the gif symbols work as intended, but when I use the New Map Viewer (or even create a Dashboard directly from the Classic Map Viewer), the symbol is behaves as a picture - meaning it is stuck on the first frame of the gif and does not move.

I looked up and tried different urls of the same gif, and got 4 results

1. symbol shown as image and not move, developer tools shows "CORS error"

2. symbol shown as image and not move, developer tools DOES NOT shows "CORS error"

3. symbol NOT shown at all, edveloper tools shows "CORS error"

4. After using a url from Google Photos instead, gif worked as intended for a short while, but a day after became static again, developer tools kept showing "CORS error"

When I use a url from imgur or a random url during testing, they seem to work well, and no "CORS error" shows up. Is there any reason why the current version of the Map Viewer seem to reject the Google Drive url, but not other urls?

Can you share the map with the image? You can also use the gif in a web style published from Pro 3.0 to get some basic animated symbol working in the web map and we are working on expanding this support in the upcoming release. This then makes the symbol not reliant on a hosting server to always be available or accessible to render the symbol.
