I am trying to import some shapefiles I found online to https://developers.arcgis.com/layers/

The upload is a 10MB zip file. It contains one file of each of the following file extensions: .cpg, .dbf, .prj, .sbn, .sbx, .shp, and .shx.

Here are the steps I tried:

  1. Import data
  2. Select file
  3. Select `shapefile`
  4. Click Upload file
  5. Wait for 15s
  6. Get error popup  "An error occurred. Please try again later."
  7. In the Chrome developer tools Response tab, I see "502 bad gateway"

Any ideas?

When trying to import the shapefiles, how did you create a zip, ideally, the shapefiles need to be zipped, rather than the folder containing shapefiles, and try that again, it should work.

Alternatively, you can also try to share the link for the shapefiles that you found.

I did try to upload the zip file itself. Here's where I found it:

I tried both az_2020.zip and wi_2020.zip

I just tried using the az_2020.zip and I am able to import the shapefile without any error.

Whenever uploading shapefiles to ArcGIS Online, you can quickly review the document link here to ensure your data meets the necessary requirements: Problem: Receiving errors when uploading a shapefile to ArcGIS Online, Business Analyst Online, or C...

Similar to @ManishPatel, I am also able to successfully add the data to ArcGIS Online. If you are still encountering this error, it may be worthwhile checking that you are using the latest version of the Google Chrome, or try open ArcGIS Online through another browser.
