I am an aeronautical enginner, working with UAV´s for cartography and remote sensing. Working with this has brought me to ArcGIS in some manner. I must say that it is quate a impressive tool.

So, when i start to make my own map in ArcGIS online i start adding layers that i find on the ArcGIS Online network, and i can see that some layers or maps, like this, do have some customized icons that you can add to this mapp, and it pop-up window has content that is not the default ArcGIS Online Popup window content.

So my big question is: how can i make a layer, or a map, that has this features (customized icons with customized pop up window content). do i have to make a map from the ArcGIS desktop and publish it later? or can i do this with the ArcGIS Online free trial or full license?

With e free account you can customize your symbols somewhat. However you will need to upload the symbols somewhere and then link to that symbol by clicking on "Add an image" in your "Change Symbol" pop up box. I have attached a little tutorial on how to do that!

With a paid subscription, you can use any symbol that is available to your via ArcGIS Desktop. Once you setup the layer in an MXD like you want it to look, you can just connect through ArcGIS Desktop to your ArcGIS Online account and upload the feature service.

If you have an ArcGIS server you can do the same thing, but you don't need a paid ArcGIS Online subscription

This should help you with the pop-up box.

Hope this helps!
